We all love sitting down in front of a great show, but have you ever thought about how our favourite programmes get on the box (or ITV Player) for that matter? There’s more to it than what goes on in the studio – our entire business comes together to deliver everything you see on screen. And with ITV’s Insight Programme, you can experience it for yourself.

Aimed at over-18s and EEA residents who have the right to work or train in the UK, the Insight programme is a great way for people looking to learn more about a career in TV. You might be a student looking to boost your studies with TV experience. Or a Media professional looking to develop your industry know-how. You could even be in the market for a career change or in the process of returning to work. As long as you can show a genuine interest in the areas you’re applying for (and in ITV of course), this could be a great opportunity for you.

What can you expect?
For starters, you’ll have membership of the ITV Insight Pool. That means priority access to any Insight placements that become available across the business. These can be up to two weeks and pop up at any time.

You shouldn’t automatically expect to be offered a placement though. Insight placements will become available according to business availability and that depends on a number of factors (things like shooting schedules, how busy and the area of the business you want to experience).

You’ll be invited to join the ITV Insight LinkedIn group, a members-only community where you can hear about ITV opportunities and read about other members’ experiences. Once you’re on a placement you’ll enjoy the chance to get involved as well as shadowing, so you’ll really get to grips with what a role at ITV entails. ITV Insight is about more than voluntary placements, you’ll get to apply for paid roles, offered exclusively to Insight members.

You’ll meet and learn from people who really know their stuff, build up a network of contacts and experience the inner workings of the TV industry. So you’ll be on a firm footing when it comes to making informed decisions about your career.

Important bits
Remember, acceptance into the Insight Pool doesn’t guarantee a placement at ITV. Once you’re a member of the Pool, you’ll have access to the great opportunities offered through the LinkedIn group – but so will everyone else. That’s why it’s important that you make your CV relevant to the opportunities you’re expressing interest in.

The ITV Insight Programme is a volunteering scheme, which allows you to get involved and gain hands-on experience wherever possible, for up to two weeks. Because of this all placements are unpaid and travel costs won’t be reimbursed. But of course if you’re offered a paid opportunity through the programme, you’ll be paid at least the Living Wage salary rate.

ITV Insight is proud to be a ‘two-tick’ disability symbol holder, meaning they re recognised for their support and retention of talented individuals with disabilities. This support, naturally, extends to anyone on a placement and ensure to do everything possible to make sure you have the support and adjustments you need to get the most out of your time.

How to apply
You have four windows of opportunity to apply each year, with the Insight Programme open in January, April, July and October. The range of placement areas on offer may change each time, so if your area of interest isn’t included, check the next Insight window.

Simply create a profile, upload your CV and complete an application form.

What next?

If you’re successful, you’ll be contacted within three months. If you don’t hear anything it means that you’ve been unsuccessful this time.

Once you’ve joined the Insight Pool, you’ll be invited to the members’ only LinkedIn group. This is where Insight placements and paid opportunities are posted for you to express your interest in.
