Written and directed by Susie Mckenna, Cinderella returns to the Hackney Empire stage revamped to entertain audiences with its mix of music and comedy which is guaranteed to appeal to families of all age groups. Using a mix of contemporary and classic compositions which make light of current political themes, it manages to be a modern adaptation without disregarding its central theme. The casting is refreshingly diverse with Aisha Jawando starring as the mistreated but impervious Cinderella, constantly bullied by her jealous and conniving stepmother Countess Anastasia played by Mckenna herself.
