Amma Asante has her sights set on a quality cast for her next directing project, Where Hands Touch.
With Amandla Stenberg (As You Are, Hunger Games) and George Mackay (Pride) already attached, Abbie Cornish (Bright Star), Christopher Eccleston (28 days Later) and Tom Sweet (The Childhood of A Leader), were announced today as having joined the cast!
They will all be heading to Belgium to begin principal photography this week.
Set in Berlin in 1944, the story follows a bi-racial German teenager (Stenberg) who begins a friendship with a member of the Hitler youth (MacKay).
Asante wrote and will direct the project and Charlie Hanson (David Brent: Life on the Road) is producing with Remi Adefarasin (Elizabeth) on board as DoP. The film is a Tantrum Films / Pinewood Pictures Production, co-produced with UMedia and financed by BFI, Isle of Man, Head Gear and British Film Company. World Sales will be handled by Protagonist Pictures.
About her newest casting additions, Asante said: “I have been an absolute fan of Abbie Cornish and Chris Eccleston for some time, and I am delighted to welcome Tom Sweet to my cast.”
Asante’s latest film, A United Kingdom, starring Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo, historically opened the 60th BFI London Film Festival last month, and will enjoy its UK release on November 25th, February 17rh 2017 in the USA!
Her previous release Belle was instrumental in opening the global film industry’s eyes to the wealth of behind the camera talent, which threatens to equal the increasingly recognised front-of-camera talent which hails from the UK.
As a TBB Treasure, we, of course, will be championing Ms Asante every step of the way!
