10-years after starring in the film that catapulted his career Boyega returns as Moses
Attack the Block (2011) achieved sci-fi cult status and was the film debut of both Cornish and Boyega. Big Talk Pictures produced the film alongside Film4, The UK Film Council, and StudioCanal. The film fast became a cult classic and won an Audience Award at SXSW and Los Angeles film festival.
In the original film, Moses played by Boyega banded together with his friends to defend themselves from predatory alien invaders on a council estate in South London on Guy Fawkes Night.
Although the plot for the sequel remains under wraps, Boyega will return as Moses, however this time he’ll also have a hand in bring the film to screen as one of the producers via his production company Upper Room Productions. He’ll reunite with Studiocanal, Film4 along with Complete Fiction Pictures.
John Boyega said: “It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then. I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
Said Cornish: “I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
Boyega portrayed Leroy Logan in the 3rd episode of Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe (2020), for his performance he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries.
Alongside Boyega Attack the Block 1 also starred British Black stars Danielle Vitalis, Franz Drameh, Danielle Vitalis, Michael Ajao we wonder who will return for the sequel.
