So we have sightings of Chadwick Boseman who as we all know has been cast as Mr Black Panther/T’Challa himself, with Walking Dead’s / award-winning playwright Danai Gurira; Martin Freeman erm… Doctor Who, The Office (original British one), and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o – Queen of Katwe, and pretty much queen of everything ON SET OF THE NEW BLACK PANTHER MOVIE!
It’s like the most anticipated black thing ever, maybe next to the return of Black Jesus!
Production began January 22nd of this year.
Blessed to see the top billed, but we now need to see our British Blacklisters Daniel Kaluyaa (Jonah and the Wale, Sicario) who’s been cast as W’Kabi, a loyal friend to Black Panther and our darling sweetie-pie Letitia Wright (Urban Hymn, Top Boy, My Brother the Devil) don’t think her character name has been revealed yet.
The rest of the cast are as follows – Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, a mysterious figure from T’Challa’s past; Angela Bassett is T’Challa’s queen-mother, Romonda, Winston Duke as villain, M’Baku/Man-Ape, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, an elder statesman of Wakanda.
Oh and to recap – Lupita is Wakandan warrior, Nakia, Danai and Florence Kasumba are members of the Black Panther personal gaurd, the Dora Milaje
The white people of the cast, who also happen to be British, are as earlier mentioned Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross (friend of Black Panther) and Andy Serkis will show up again as Ulysses Klaw (illegal arms dealer and baddie, last seen as Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2015)
Apparently whilst filming is underway it’s Variety is saying that a location in South Korea has been booked to film an epic car chase which will involve a huge number of cars and people, and helicopters and firing guns… and as much as I can’t stand car chases, I’m gonna love this one!
But even more heart quickening that me fake-loving car chases, is that there’s now a synopsis – Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
I bet you thought, we’d forgotten someone… OBVIOUSLY the villain is Michael BAE Jordan (Creed, Fruitvale Station), who’s been cast as Erik Killmonger. Ergo! According to the comics and the geeks Killmonger is the one who’ll be challenging Black Panther’s position, because according to the comics, Killmonger’s family were exiled from Wakanda because his dad helped Ulysees Klaw (Serkis) steal some of Wakanda’s valuable metal Vibranium. So in true illogical angry villain style, Killmonger is hellbent on revenge (even though his daddy was in the wrong) and thus will be the crux of the story. With rumours of an epic fight scene between Panther and Killmonger.
Women be calm, but the bae’s will be fighting. This is definitely going to be a #TeamLawrence #TeamDaniel situ (whitefolks think #TeamEdward #TeamJacob). Outside of the fighting, things we’re also wondering, who’s gonna be kissing whom? Who’s going to get the epic sex scene [insert eyes emoji]!?!
Ryan Coogler (Director – Creed, Fruitvale Station), the pressure is mounting, and like Beyonce’s TWINS!!! We need feeding. So more set pics please. Some footage, and a trailer. WE NEED A TRAILER!!!
