The Weekend is a hilarious and outrageous new British comedy for all the family, which follows school friends Derrick (Jovian Wade), Tyler (Dee Kaate) and Malcolm (Percelle Ascott) who embark on a weekend of serious misadventure after discovering a huge sum of money!
Delighted at their good fortune, they spend The Weekend in a whirlwind of flash cars, casinos, champagne and decadence, making a splash and bringing themselves to the attention of the notorious villain whom the money belongs to!
Given just 24 hours to return all the cash or risk the wrath of the gangsters, the hapless trio concoct a series of plots to make the money back, with hilarious consequences. The question is, will they manage to repay their debt in time, or are they in too deep?
Featuring the UK’s brightest rising stars of comedy in their debut feature film, Wade (EastEnders, Dr Who, The Youngers), Kaate (Walliams and Friends, The JPD Show) and Ascott (Wizards vs Aliens, The JPD Show) have achieved huge success as internet sensations Mandem On The Wall. They launched the The Wall of Comedy a few years ago, a small web-based sketch comedy and entertainment platform with material written by, filmed by and starring the London-born boys, which has since amassed over 100,000 Youtube subscribers, 2.6 million Facebook fans, 15.6 K twitter followers and over 80K Instagram fans! The overwhelming success of the platform led to the commissioning of the currently airing BBC 3 comedy sketch series The JPD Show, helping to propel the rising stars to the forefront of fresh urban comedy talent.
Running Films’ award-winning Sheridan Demyers (Alchemy: The Gold Plate, Thinking Out Loud) directs an original story by Kojo Amin (Fresh Prince of Hackney, Kojo’s Comedy Funhouse), and features a cast including such emerging British acting talent as Nadine Mills (The Riot Act, Younger Brothers, Drink, Drugs and KFC ), and Arnold Jorge (Diary of a Badman, SBTV).
The Weekend Movie is another project backed by the BFI’s Lottery Distribution Fund, and was filmed in and around Hackney and Peckham.
The film also features a motion picture soundtrack, which includes tracks from leading international and UK artists Dizzee Rascal, P Money, D Dark, D double E, Mez, Davinche, Bonkaz. All music from the film has been composed by renowned Hip Hop and Grime producer S.K.I.T.Z Beatz.
