After 5 years, God Bless The Child (an evening with Billie Holiday) is re- launching this acclaimed one women show.
At this stage, fee is based on a box office split, however the show has done two sell out tours, and a very successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe.
God Bless The Child also became the first piece of theatre to play at renowned jazz venue, Ronnie Scott’s.
Please note, the team behind the production are not not looking for a Billie impersonation, but an actor who can really translate the emotion in a song (a set of eight) and carry an epic and (at times) disturbing emotional journey.
Rehearsals will be in Liverpool, but obviously open to schedule rehearsal times around other commitments.
This is an excellent vehicle for the right actor, there’s a huge interest in this project.
Set in a small night club, this one women show takes the audience on an intimate and personal journey, from a misspent youth in Baltimore through to the lavish jazz joints of 1930’s Harlem. Strong Adult Content.
“ Holiday’s tragic life unfolds with tremendous gusto and is punctuated by some of her greatest hits… Her voice drips with emotion. I’m still tingling from a haunting Strange Fruit that set my hair on end”– The Scotsman, Edinburgh Fringe”.
“An excellent piece” Three Weeks Daily Edinburgh Fringe.
“A tour- de force, beautifully accompanied throughout by pianist Mike Conliffe”– Lancaster Guardian
