British actors Oscar-nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor and BAFTA award-winner Micheal Ward star in action fantasy The Old Guard.

Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries.

But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball, 2000; Beyond the Lights, 2014), The Old Guard is a gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks.

Taking the co-lead Kiki Layne who was captivating in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), will soon be seen in Coming to America 2 – which we are all extremely excited/scared if it’s going to live up to the original’s legacy.

Ejiofor who is scheduled to return as ‘Mordo‘ in the next Dr Strange Marvel project, plays ‘Copely‘ who looks like he’s against the team, so the bad guy in this instance.

Ward who is probably still on a high after the runaway success of Blue Story in which he was the lead, has a small role in this as someone called ‘Lykon‘. Probably one of the soldiers doesn’t really matter, he’s making his inroads into Hollywood. He’ll also soon be seen in Steve McQueen’s BBC series Small Axe – coming soon.

The Old Guard will be available to watch on Netflix, Friday 10th July 2020
