From Oct 2018 – Jan 2019 the BFI’s Comedy Genius season includes some iconic black comedy events.
Highlights in November include Black Comedy week – don’t miss the chance to visit/revisit comedy classics ranging from the ladies-on-the-loose comedy Girls Trip to the infectious and high-spirited teenage comedy House Party.
For die-hard comedy fans, they have The Black Comedy Revolution – a day of events that will bring together comedians from different generations for riotous confessions and wisdom sharing.

Black British people are no longer the butt of the joke; we’re now dropping the mic thanks to generations of on-screen comic talent. Norman Beaton passed the mic to Lenny Henry who handed it to TV collectives like The Real McCoy, 3 Non-Blondes, Famalam… This day will bring together many of those intergenerational comedians for riotous confessions and wisdom sharing.

This pioneering 90s show kickstarted numerous careers, we reunite some of its cast for you In this special event.
BBC sketch show The Real McCoy ran for five seasons in the 1990s, a watershed moment in black British comedy. Starring Llewella Gideon, Curtis Walker, Ishmael Thomas, Leo Mohammed, Collette Johnson, Felix Dexter, Judith Jacob and Eddie Nestor who appeared alongside musicians, athletes, and other TV personalities, the show kickstarted numerous careers. This unique event will bring the original cast back together to share memories of that pivotal time.
The event will feature contributions from cast members Judith Jacob, Llwella Gideon and Paulette Randall, and producer Charlie Hanson.
