THE ALFRED FAGON AWARD WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1996 TO COMMEMORATE THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE BOXING CHAMPION, WELDER, ACTOR, POET AND PLAYWRIGHT ALFRED FAGON.

Each year the award seeks to recognise the best original play written by a British playwright of Caribbean or African descent. Recent winners include Jasmine Lee-Jones in 2019 for her play Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner and Michaela Coel in 2012 for her one-woman monologue Chewing Gum Dreams. Winner of the 2018 award, Winsome Pinnock’s play Rockets and Blue Lights, is also currently available online as part of BBC Three’s Lockdown Theatre Festival here.

The deadline for entries is Friday 31st July 2020, with the winner being announced at The Alfred Fagon Award ceremony in November 2020.
