You can’t help thinking that film makers we admire seem to have been freed to cast their ‘dream leads’ by the diversity debate.
When Aaron Sorkin says of his next movie venture, “The casting of Jessica and Idris in the two lead roles is any filmmaker’s dream come true… They’re two of the greatest actors of their generation, paired for the first time, and their chemistry will be electric.”
If it comes to pass, it is set to further solidify Elba’s standing as the World’s Coolest Dude, since Molly’s Game tells the real-life story of a long-running, exclusive high-stakes poker game run by Molly Bloom.
As creator of critically acclaimed pieces of work for multiple media, Sorkin knows all about chemistry. He created The West Wing (1999) which reinvigorated the TV ensemble cast drama based on cast chemistry, and the sorely under-honoured Steve Jobs (2015), which was a wonderful examination of a brilliant man who, for various reasons, had very little personal chemistry.
