The Role

Forward-looking. Focused. Visionary. Kingston University is yours to inspire. You will join the new Department of Film & Photography and help shape the futures of emerging, talented filmmakers. You will have management responsibilities, undertake course development and devise partnership initiatives with industry and other universities to consolidate one of the UK’s most vibrant filmmaking programmes. Alongside contributing to the culture of filmmaking and film and photography research at Kingston, you will be interested in developing your leadership role, be research and or practice active and interested in supervising PhD students within film and related lens-based areas.

The Person

You may be currently working in the film industry or independent film sector with some higher education teaching experience and looking to make a move into academia, or have a background in academia with professional filmmaking experience. Most important will be your film production understanding and on-going experience working in one or more of the key areas of film:

  • directing
  • producing
  • cinematography
  • scriptwriting
  • post-production.

Your talent for communicating practice-based skills and film grammar should be complemented by good administrative and organisational skills, plus a contact book of industry specialists to enrich the studies and progression of our diverse students.

The Department of Film & Photography launched in October 2016 and has ambitions plans to be one of the leading Departments for the still and moving image in the UK. The Department sits within the vibrant Kingston School of Art which has a well-earned reputation for its undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.
