John Boyega will soon wrap on his role as ‘Finn’ in the latest Star Wars offering.

However, he’s not ditching sci-fi just yet as it’s been announced he’ll take the lead role in the as described “pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper”, They Cloned Tyrone. This Netflix original film is said to follow a thrown together trio of people investigating a series of strange occurrences in their ‘hood; leading them to unearth a dodgy conspiracy… which guessing by the title will have something to do with cloning at the very least.

Originally Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry was the announced lead, but as happens with film projects all manner of things can change with casting and creative team line ups. We’re not sure why this change in direction from Henry to Boyega happened, but we’re not mad. More than likely filming schedules weren’t aligning. Atlanta seasons 3& 4 will begin filming early next year, and us impatient fans are quite okay with Henry aka Paper Boy returning in a more timely fashion. (Remember we had a long pause on season 2 whilst showrunner and star Donald Glover filmed his role as Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars story)

It will also be great to see Boyega back in the acting driving seat post Star Wars franchise. His slate is already pretty stacked as he’s starring Steve McQueen’s BBC series Small Axe, Naked Singularity – about a successful New York public defender whose life starts to unravel after he loses his first case and Hold Back the Stars, another sci-fi this time a romance which is based on the novel of the same name by Katie Khan.

We’ll see John Boyega in his final role as Finn in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker coming to UK cinemas 19th December 2019
