The One was created and written by Urban Myth’s Howard Overman.

The 8-part drama series which has been compared to the AMC series Soulmates currently on Amazon Prime follows events 10 years after a scientific breakthrough has allowed people to use DNA testing to find their ideal partner. However, even perfectly matched couples have secrets. The One reveals some of the more shocking and deadly situations, as well as the implications of DNA-based pairings.

The cast is led by Hanna Ware (The First, Betrayal, Boss) who plays Rebecca the ambitious and impulsive founding CEO of MatchDNA the tech company that has designed a DNA test that allows people to identify their perfect partner. Actor Dimitri Leonidas (Riviera), plays Rebecca’s best friend and the co-founder of MatchDNA, and Amir El-Masry (Industry) will play a friend to Rebecca, who harbours deeper feelings for the tech CEO.

British actors Lois Chimimba (A Discovery of Witches, Top Boy) has been cast as Hannah – a woman besotted with her husband Mark but haunted by the fear that he will eventually leave her for a MatchDNA partner. And Eric Kofi-Abrefa (Humans, Blue Story) has been cast as Mark – a friendly, relaxed journalist and Hannah’s husband.

Chimimba is a fast-rising star the Glaswegian actress is a familiar face on both stage and screen training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Chimimba will probably be most recognisable as nurse Karen in BBC One’s Trust Me (2017). She also starred in Doctor Who: The Tsuranga Conundrum. Her stage credits include Damon Albarn‘s musical Wonder.land as Aly in 2015 and 2016 and Chekhov’s Three Sisters as Natasha. Kofi-Abrefa who is best known for his role in Blue Story, recently filmed began filming for  Starz’s drama Black Mafia Family, he also had a recurring role on the USA Network series Treadstone, and he worked on the Sundance Lab film Pretty Red Dress, from writer/director Dionne Edwards.

The One was first announced by Netflix in 2018 and is based on a novel by John Marrs. The series is created and written by Misfits creator Howard Overman, whose production company, Urban Myth Films, is producing in association with Studio Canal. It is executive produced by Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy. The One is set to air on March 12th.
