SIGH!!! This is ABSOLUTELY what we need right now.

Filming has wrapped on Been So Long, the musical film adaptation of Che Walker’s play of the same name. Billed as a ‘Modern day Romance’ Been So Long is set in Camden, London and tells the story of a dedicated single mother (Michaela Coel) who gets charmed by a handsome yet troubled stranger (Arinzé Kene).

Been So Long is developed by the BFI and Greenacre Film with co-financing from Film4

This is a massive move from the British film industry, in that that they’re making a musical, lead by black leads! Especially of the calibre of Ms. Coel who has enjoyed international success from her play turned TV comedy series Chewing Gum. For which she won a BAFTA Television Award. She also led horror-series Alien for E4 and will follow up Been So Long with a role in Sci-Fi sequel, Monsters: Dark Continent.

Kene is critically acclaimed actor known for roles in TV series’ Youngers, Crazyhead, and made his second film lead in British feature The Pass.
