So Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (2012), wasn’t much appreciated by those expecting a film to match his ground breaking Sigourney Weaver led, Alien (1979) and subsequent blockbuster / cult / legendary sequel-franchise. But here he is again, and apparently his latest offering, Alien: Covenant is a ‘return to form’ according to those who’ve been privy to watch some preview footage.

Being released by 20th Century Fox, Alien: Covenant will pick up where Prometheus – the pre-story to Alien, left off. Michael Fassbender will reprise his role as the only survivor of Prometheus, David the Android. Joining Fassbender will be Carmen Ejogo (Selma, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) in a significant role and Jussie Smollett (Empire); character names unknown but both are definitely part of the new space crew.

So the story is said to be  as follows,

Headed for some planet deep into the galaxy the crew on board the Covenant stumble upon David (Fassbender) trapped in this dark horrible space where he’s still being hunted by the creatures which killed off his crew (including Idris Elba who played Janek) in Prometheus. Thus begins… well you know!

With its current R rating status, and according to reports, Alien: Covenant will be as scary as the original with lots of gory scenes, including a new reimagining of an alien, excuse me, neomorph bursting through an unsuspecting crew member.

Ejogo, born in London played Coretta Scott King opposite David Oyelowo’s Martin Luther King in the criminally under-awards-recognised Selma (2014) – the Ava DuVernay directed biopic of Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr’s civil rights march through Selma. She recently starred in the adaptation of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which has only recently been knocked off the UK’s top slot at the Box Office by another pre-story feature, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

So… what we’re waiting to find out is Ejogo’s character name, her backstory and why she signed up to join spaceship Covenant. We also want to know if she’s going to be first, middle, or never to die… watch this space!

Alien: Covenant is set to be released in the UK  and the US August 4, 2017.
