In celebration of PRIDE month, our selection includes stories that demonstrate not only the celebration of being in your own skin but also the trials and tribulations that can often come with being ‘different’.

September Mornings – Friday 25th June (Amazon Prime Video)

The five, 30-minute episodes tell the journey of Cassandra, who starts to see things get on track in her life with a place of her own for the first time, a boyfriend who she loves, Ivaldo (Thomás Aquino), a job as a courier in downtown São Paulo, and fulfilling her dream of being a cover artist of Vanusa, a famous Brazilian singer from the 70s. Her life takes an unexpected turn, however, when her ex, Leide (Karine Teles), shows up with Gersinho (Gustavo Coelho) and claims he is Cassandra’s son.

The Legend of the Underground – Tuesday 29th June (HBO Max)

An HBO Original documentary that follows a group of youth challenging ideals of gender, conformity, and civil rights in Nigeria.

Audible – Thursday 1st July (Netflix)

Football player Amaree McKenstry-Hall and his Maryland School for the Deaf teammates attempt to defend their winning streak while coming to terms with the tragic loss of a close friend. The graduating students face mounting pressures of entering the hearing world while tackling adversity and demanding to be heard in this moving coming-of-age story.

Reminiscence – Friday 20th August (In Cinemas & on HBO Max)

Domino: Battle Of The Bones – UK release date TBA

Andy, a misfit ten-year-old white boy is sent to visit his new Black step-grandfather, Gerald, in Compton when his parents ditch him for a private Cabo vacation. Gerald wants nothing to do with the child until he discovers that Andy is a math whiz and master domino player, which is perfect, as Gerald has been training for the World Domino Championship just a few days away. The film stars Snoop Dogg and former NBA all-star Baron Davis in his directorial debut.

Invasion – 22nd October (Apple TV+)

Set across multiple continents, follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. Starring Shamier Andeson.

tick, tick … BOOM! – Autumn 2021 (Netflix)

Lin-Manuel Miranda directs and Andrew Garfield stars in TICK, TICK… BOOM!, a new film based on RENT creator Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical about one man’s race against time to create something extraordinary. Also starring Black Thought, Alexandra Shipp, and Tariq Trotter

The Surrogate – July 9th (in cinemas)

A sensitive insight into the complex issues surrounding surrogacy, THE SURROGATE follows Jess Harris (Jasmine Batchelor, “The Good Fight”), a 29-year-old web designer, who is excited to be the surrogate and egg-donor for her best friend Josh (Chris Perfetti, “Looking”) and his husband Aaron (Sullivan Jones, “Halston”, “Slave Play”). Twelve weeks into the pregnancy, a prenatal test comes back with unexpected results that pose a moral dilemma. As they all consider the best course of action, the relationship between the three friends is put to the test.
