Weruche Opia joins Jason Momoa in Fantasy film ‘Slumberland’

Slumberland is director Francis Lawrence’s take on an influential early 20th-century comic strip by Winsor McCay.

McCay’s comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland is historically considered an artistic masterpiece that defined the comic format when it ran in newspapers from 1905 to 1927. It centred on Nemo a young boy who had fantastical dreams.

Apparently inspired by parts of Little Nemo Slumberland‘s plot will take a completely different approach to the comic. The script is by David Guion and Michael Handelman (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb – 2014) and follows a young girl called Barkley who discovers a secret map to the dreamworld of Slumberland, and with the help of an eccentric outlaw played by Jason Momoa (Aquaman; Game of Thrones), she traverses through dreams and flees nightmares, with the hope that she will be granted one wish: to see her late father again.

British-Nigerian actress Weruche Opia will play an agent of the subconscious chasing Momoa through Slumberland. Opia, who was born in Nigeria, is best known for starring opposite Michaela Coel in BBC searing drama I May Destroy You. One of her earliest roles was a part of the BBC series Bad Education. She is repped by Anonymous Content and Curtis Brown Group.

Opia’s casting was announced alongside India de Beaufort (One Day at a Time, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Veep), both joining previously announced cast members Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, The Wolf of Wall Street), Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd, Brides Maids) and Marlow Barkley (Single Parents).
