What To Watch W/C Monday 24th July

The highly anticipated Dreaming Whilst Black airs this Monday, the series is based on the original web series and award-winning pilot of the same name. Created by Adjani Salmon who also plays the lead role Kwabena.

Dreaming Whilst Black – Monday 24th July @ 10pm | BBC Three

When Kwabena bumps into Amy, an old friend from film school who has just returned from three years in Nigeria, she offers to pass his script, Jamaica Road, to the development team at the production company where she works.

But life isn’t as simple as all that, and Kwabena who’s stuck in a dead-end job, may have to make some sacrifices in order to pursue his dream when he gets the opportunity of a lifetime.

Long Lost Family – Monday 24th July @ 9pm | ITV

Rachel Burch grew up in a white family and stood out in the small, West Sussex village where they lived, and is searching for her Jamaica-born birth father. Meanwhile Sue has her heart set on finding her long-lost brother who her mum was forced to give away at the age of 20 when she fell pregnant by a US airman.

The 2014 killing of Kyle Farrell by 21-year-old Fri Martin, his childhood sweetheart and mother of his children. With access to family and friends, this documentary hears from both sides in the run-up to the hearing.

David Harewood on Blackface – Thursday 27th July @ 9pm | BBC Two

David Harewood investigates the roots of minstrelsy, a strange, intensely problematic, cultural form. It eventually paved the way for The Black and White Minstrel Show, which, at its peak, was watched by a Saturday night BBC TV audience of more than 20 million people. David looks at the effect the series had on his own career and that of fellow actors.
