Last year Entertainment Weekly scared anticipating fans of the upcoming Disney live action Aladdin film.
Showing Aladdin’s three lead actors in ‘costume‘ the magazine cover had social media abuzz with Will Smith’s un-blue skin and noticeably un-genie like size. Doubts about whether or not Smith would be able to fill the shoes of legendary Robin William’s animated version, based on this one picture was enough for some to swear blindly they would not be watching.
But, yesterday Disney dropped Aladdin’s first trailer and there’s been an about turn. Smith is blue and huge! Fans are happy. The trailer doesn’t give much away but we see newcomer Mena Massoud as the hero Aladdin, Marwan Kenzari as the villain Jafar and a quick glimpse of Smith as the Genie. All looks very epic and promising.
The official synopsis – the vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.
Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie (another person attached to this film people had doubts about, but after the trailer are expectant and hopeful). The film will include new recordings of the original songs and two new songs.
