Culture Ministry and CMU to Launch Creative Practitioners Institute in 2025 to Boost Jamaica’s Cultural Sector
The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in Jamaica has forged a relationship with the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) for the establishment of a Culture, Entertainment and Creative Practitioners Institute at the institution.
In a bold move set to redefine the future of Jamaica’s cultural economy, the government has announced the launch of the Culture, Entertainment and Creative Practitioners Institute, a unique institution dedicated to nurturing the island’s creative talent.
“We will open the institute in September of this year with a target of 500 learners. Our vision is to establish a premier institute that fosters innovation, growth and professional development in Jamaica’s cultural and creative industries, empowering individuals to thrive in a globally competitive environment,” Portfolio Minister, Olivia Grange, said.
“It will be a hub for training, collaboration and capacity-building in the cultural and creative industries, driving economic growth, cultural preservation and global competitiveness,” she added.

Grange said the plan is to focus on such dynamic creative areas as innovation and technology integration, cultural identity and preservation, education and certification, collaboration and partnerships, sustainability and institutionalisation.
“In other words, the institute will feature the full gamut of the ecosystem of the cultural and creative industries,” Grange stressed.
The institute’s curriculum will offer a robust blend of traditional and emerging disciplines designed to equip creatives with both technical expertise and entrepreneurial skills. Courses will span Music Production, Reggae and Dancehall Production Techniques, Audio Engineering, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Photography, Cinematography, and Film Production-with a future-focused edge through modules in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Tools for Creatives.
The institute is slated to open in September 2025.
