A.Dot Becomes First Solo Female Host of BBC 1Xtra Breakfast

BBC Radio 1Xtra today announced A.Dot as the first solo female to host 1Xtra Breakfast (weekdays, 7-10am) in the station’s history. A.Dot, who joined 1Xtra in 2014 to present the station’s Saturday 4-7pm show and since October has hosted the weekday 1-4pm show, will take over the reins of 1Xtra Breakfast from 4 July.

A.Dot says: “This is unbelievable. I can’t believe actual people are going to be waking up to my voice every day! I can’t wait to kick start your mornings with enough music and mayhem to get you through the day. Breakfast will never be the same again!

“Just 18 months ago 1Xtra gave a radio rookie a Saturday afternoon show and now here I am taking the wheel on the Breakfast Show. I’m so, so grateful for this huge opportunity. I’ve never set a 5am alarm before, let’s hope I don’t sleep through it!”

Twin B and Yasmin Evans, who currently host 1Xtra Breakfast, will be taking on their own solo shows – with Yasmin to become the host of the weekday 1-4pm show and Twin B taking on the Saturday 4-7pm show.

Twin B says: “Waking up with the 1Xtra audience has been amazing and leaving the show with more peops listening to it than ever is brill! Juggling the show alongside my other commitments has been challenging so, 5am alarm off, let’s have vibes and good music on a Saturday afternoon.”

Yasmin Evans says: “I’m delighted to be taking on the afternoon slot solo and excited for the 1Xtra audience to get to know me a little better. As ever being able to express my love and passion for music is key. Setting my alarm a little later will also be a bonus!”

Rhys Hughes, Head of Programmes for BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, says: “Another first for BBC 1Xtra as we appoint the first solo female presenter in A.Dot to the 1Xtra Breakfast Show. A.Dot will bring her passion for the music, her unique brand of humour, and a fresh energy to waking up the 1Xtra listeners. I would also like to thank Twin and Yasmin for the sterling work they have put into the current Breakfast Show, and congratulate them on the new shows.”
