Cecile Emeke’s docuseries ‘Strolling’ relaunched in Grenada

Cecile Emeke’s Strolling Returns: Restored, Reignited, and Expanding the Black Diaspora Conversation …

Cecile Emeke’s hit documentary series Strolling is officially back online, with all episodes fully restored on YouTube and set to expand with powerful new chapters from across the global Black diaspora .

Strolling debuted in 2014. Emeke’s profound concept offered something simple yet revolutionary. These were walking conversations with young Black individuals, not elite interviews. Instead, Emeke fostered intimate, free-flowing dialogues about identity, mental health, gentrification, misogynoir, neocolonialism, art, philosophy, and more, set against the backdrop of various bustling city streets.

The series amplified voices historically sidelined in media: everyday Black women and men, unfiltered and raw. Emeke’s unobtrusive camera and tight sound design served one purpose: to let her subjects speak. Each episode, typically in a different city (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, New York), bridged the gap between academia and lived experience, turning ordinary walks into deeply reflective moments.

Strolling 2.0

Emeke has restored all past episodes on her YouTube channel, where they’ll remain free to view forever and debuts the first of a new series and recently debuted the first epidsode of the new series from Grenada, featuring a conversation with Syisha, reigniting the series with even deeper diasporic reach.

Hopefully, Emeke will touch every corner of the diaspora, picking up where she left off in 2016 and continuing outward, in cities and towns where Black voices are seldom heard in international media .

The original series was successful because they were not scripted interviews. They’re genuine, often surprising conversations that reveal everyday truths and vulnerabilities. Viewers will traverse London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, New York, and now places like Grenada, learning how nuances within the global Black experience should influence our view of each other.

Strolling revived isn’t nostalgia, it’s a continuation of a movement. Cecile Emeke recognised early on that Black lives are rich, complex, and deserving of space beyond stereotypes. Her series gave that space back, and now it’s returning with renewed vigor, ambition, and geographic scope.

For anyone seeking unfiltered stories, cultural insight, or just a refreshing take on documentary form, Strolling offers a clear invitation: join the walk, listen, and understand.

Check it out on Emeke’s YouTube, support where you can, and prepare for more voices, more cities, and more essential conversations ahead.
