Gary Carr & Thalissa Teixeira to star in BBC’s ‘Trigonometry’

Trigonometry is a love story about three people who are made for each other.

Written by Duncan Macmillan and Effie Woods in their first joint television project. Gary Carr (The Deuce, The Good Fight), and Thalissa Teixeira (The Musketeers, Press) join Ariane Labed (The Lobster, Attenberg) to lead the BBC Two cast.

In crowded and expensive London, cash-strapped couple Gemma (Teixeira) and Kieran (Carr) open their small apartment to a third person. Somehow, their new addition, Ray (Labed), makes the flat seem bigger, not smaller. Gradually, many things become easier, nicer and better with an extra pair of hands.

Trigonometry has emotional and psychological truthfulness at its heart. Funny and full of sexual tension, Gemma and Kieran have everything to lose. As this unusual relationship becomes unavoidable, the trio approach it with the prudence of people in their 30s. Is it possible to love in a different way? But even when common sense, friends, and family are telling them that this complicated relationship is doomed, Gemma, Kieran, and Ray simply can’t be apart…

Further cast includes Ambreen Razia (Murdered By My Father). Episodes 1-5 will be directed by Athina Tsangari (Chevalier) and Episodes 6-8 will be directed by Stella Corradi (Through The Gates).

Gary Carr recently played himself in the 3rd season of The Good Fight (currently available to watch on More4), he’s also filming Modern Love – an anthology series based on a weekly New York Times column. Carr says: “Trigonometry is just one of those special projects. I’m so grateful to be joining this stellar team of artists and creatives to tell this very human story.”

Brazillian raised Thalissa Teixeira has transitioned from stage to screen in the last few years debuting in action film Take Down, 2016 followed by BBC’s The Musketeers. Teixeira says: “I’m totally overwhelmed by all of it, the scripts, the shoot, the people. I’m so happy to be a part of this exceptionally original story.”

House Productions joint CEO’s Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell adds: “We are thrilled that Arianne, Gary and Thalissa have brought the characters in Duncan and Effie’s exquisite scripts to life in such a beautiful way. Working with two hugely talented directors, Athina Tsangari and Stella Corradi, they have given us something very special, creating a thrilling and palpable on screen chemistry which makes this feel truly exceptional.”

Trigonometry is produced by House Productions for BBC Two. Executive producers are Duncan Macmillan and Effie Woods; Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell for House Productions and Tommy Bulfin for BBC Two. The series has been commissioned by Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama and Patrick Holland, Controller of BBC Two.

The producer is Imogen Cooper (Hatton Garden, The Windsors) and the transmission date will be announced in due course. BBC Studios will handle distribution for the series.
