The I Am… Short Story Competition is aimed at 9 – 18-year-olds with an interest in storytelling and sharing diverse stories.
The I Am… Short Story Competition is sponsored by Jacaranda Books, Bella and Logan Series and Round Table Books. The winning stories will be included in a compilation book self-published by Casey Elisha Books who want to encourage the creation of new diverse stories for the next generation, by the next generation.
In order to increase representation and accurate storytelling in books, we need to raise the next generation of writers to continue the work we have started and help embed the importance of literature at an early age.
This competition is open to 9 – 18-year-olds in the UK, Europe and the USA. All entries must be in English.
There are 3 categories based on age, and all entries will be judged on the following:
- Spelling and grammar
Winning stories will be included in a compilation book self-published by Casey Elisha Books, and the writers will receive book vouchers sponsored by Round Table Books.
The first prize winner of each category will also receive:
- Age 9 – 11: £100 cash prize
- Age 12 – 15: £200 cash prize
- Age 16 – 18: £300 cash prize + writing mentorship with Rachel Beckles

- Email your short story and entry form to firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday 30th August.
The subject line should read: Short Story Competition Submission – [Age Category]

75% of proceeds from all sales of the compilation book will be spent purchasing diverse books from independent authors and publishers, and distributing them for free to the schools, libraries and families that need them the most.
