Nicholai La Barrie Named Artistic Associate At Lyric Hammersmith

La Barrie was recently announced as the writer and creator of Heart of Hammersmith, the theatre’s first large-scale community play which will run in the Main House this summer (12 to 14 August).

La Barrie will join Tinuke Craig, Nina Steiger, Phillip McMahon, and Simon Stephens, the existing Artistic Associates at the Lyric.

He said of the appointment: “I am honoured to be joining the team of Artistic Associates at the Lyric, it holds a special place in my heart. Its extraordinary work with young artists and commitment to world-class theatre makes it unique. The work is thrilling and under Rachel’s leadership will continue to make a huge impact to the local community and internationally. I am so pleased to lend my support.”

Nicholai is a theatre and film director who has been a MOBO Fellow. His theatre credits include Liar Heretic Thief (Lyric Hammersmith Theatre), White (Edinburgh Festival), Gob (London International Festival of Theatre), The Book of Disquiet (Blue Elephant Theatre), I’ll Take You There (Gate Theatre), There is Nothing There (Oval House), Chet Baker: Speedball (606 Jazz Club), Portrait For Posterity (Arcola Theatre). His film credits include: Hamlet Sort OfNorth East South West, Aingeal, Dark Stranger. 

Artistic director Rachel O’Riordan added: “The Lyric team is committed to serving the community of West London and beyond, and making incredible theatre with extraordinary artists. We have so much exciting work to do, and I am very proud to lead the Lyric alongside an exceptional team which now includes Nicholai.”
