Sony’s Dark Tower Starring Idris Elba Release Date Pushed Back Again!

The Dark Tower starring Idris Elba in the lead, has had its release date pushed back once again. Originally scheduled for a January release, then February, then July, now it looks like we’re going to have to wait til August to see Elba in his second major lead role after Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013).

Based on Stephen King’s Dark Tower book series, the adaptation written and directed by Nikolaj Arcel (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) follows Roland Deschain (Elba), the last Gunslinger, who is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.

Exciting!

Rumours range that the release date changed because they’re still in deep editing mode and far from ready to go based on footage exclusively shown at CinemaCon 2017. Others say that Sony wants to avoid running into competition with the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 movie (which stars Lennie James – Walking Dead).
