Sophie Okonedo stars in new Netflix suspense series ‘ratched’

It’s being described as a drama-suspense series, but from the trailer Ratched looks pretty scary to us!

From the creator of the American Horror Story series, Ryan Murphy has joined forces with writer/producer Evan Romansky to bring us Ratched a suspenseful drama series that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. For those of you who don’t know, Nurse Ratched who is the other infamous character from the horror classic One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (1975).

In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smouldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.

The series stars Sarah Paulson as Mildred Ratched, Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Gov. George Wilburn.

Award-winning British Nigerian actress Okonedo known for her roles in (Hotel Rwanda; Undercover, Wild Rose) plays Charlotte Wells who appears to be one of the patients. We’re not sure if she appears throughout the series or as a one-episode special feature. Okonedo’s next project ‘Death on the Nile‘ – Kenneth Brannagh’s Agatha Christie adaptation which also stars Letitia Wright is in post-production. Okonedo plays ‘Salome Otterbourne‘ a character played by Ms Murder She Wrote, Angela Lansbury in the 1978 original.

Ratched comes to Netflix September 18th
