We Are Parable announce Momentum 2022 in association with Channel 4

MOMENTUM 2022 will support 60 Black filmmakers and content creators across the UK

Award-winning film exhibition company We Are Parable have announced a new partnership with Channel 4 and 4Skills to develop and deliver Momentum, a mentoring and training programme designed to support Black Filmmakers and Content Creators in their careers.

The project was originally devised by We Are Parable and began in 2020 with support from the Film and TV charity and supported 20 filmmakers across mentoring, mental health workshops and opportunities to screen new work from emerging and established talent.

The second iteration, with support from Channel 4, will work with 60 Black creatives in both film and television, across six cities (London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds), enabling We Are Parable to significantly scale the project nationwide.

Anthony Andrews, Creative Director at We Are Parable said: “Being able to work with Channel 4 on the next exciting phase of Momentum is important and hugely exciting. Where possible, we want this project to be able to provide Black British creatives with the opportunities and experiences they need to progress in what is an increasingly competitive industry.”

Neila Butt, Creative Diversity Lead, Nations & Regions at Channel 4, said: “We are really proud to be partnering with We Are Parable on their Momentum programme in 2022. We had a great experience working with We Are Parable on the Black to Front project and want to build on that legacy to provide more opportunities for Black TV & Filmmakers, and content creators.”

Kevin Blacoe, Head of Partnerships at Channel 4 & 4Skills, said: “We are committed to improving diversity and representation within our industry and Momentum is exactly the sort of programme that we want to support through 4Skills. It has the right combination of mentoring, training and networking in order to have a real impact, and is available in six cities across the UK, so supports our Nations and Regions focus as well.”

Teanne Andrews, Director of Operations at We Are Parable, said: “The initial response to the announcement from our network has been overwhelming. We hope that Momentum can act as a way of moving the film and tv industry forward, towards diverse voices in front of and behind the camera.”

Applications for Momentum 2022 are now open! (Closing date: Midday, 31st December)
