What To Watch W/C Monday 10th July

This week’s TV picks include the second season of Apple TV+’s The Afterparty, Michelle Buteau’s highly anticipated Netflix comedy Survival of the Thickest and an oldie but a goodie with comedy sketch show 3 Non-Blondes.

3 Non-Blondes – Tuesday 11 July @10pm | BBC Two

Hidden-camera comedy show featuring the talents of Tameka Empson, Jocelyn Jee Esien and Ninia Benjamin, who take to the streets of Britain in guises ranging from tarts touting for Jesus to African performance poets. First broadcast in 2003.

The Afterparty: S2 – Wednesday 12th July | Apple TV+

Each episode explores a different character’s account of one fateful evening, all told through the lens of popular film genres and unique visuals to match the storyteller’s perspective.

In season two, a wedding is ruined when the groom is murdered and every guest is a suspect. Detective Danner helps to solve the whodunnit by questioning family members, star-crossed lovers and business partners, and hearing each suspect’s retelling of the weekend, each with their own unique perspective and visual style.

Who Do You Think You Are? – Thursday 13th July @9pm | BBC One

Radio presenter and actor Dev Griffin is proud of his Irish heritage but says he feels more like a Londoner than Irish. A trip to Dublin and then County Clare changes that as he discovers his ancestors risked taking part in the Easter Rising to achieve independence for Ireland. Dev knows even less about his Jamaican father Rodney’s family so is fascinated to hear that in 1901 his great-grandparents were excluded from their church for fornicating outside marriage. His Caribbean visit also helps him understand why he doesn’t have a close relationship with his father, but he now feels he knows where he belongs.

Survival of the Thickest – Thursday 13th July | Netflix

Mavis Beaumont is proudly thick, newly single and ready to take over the world as an aspiring stylist one fitting at a time. When Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist, she’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body-positive attitude and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss.

Snowfall: S6 – Thursday 13th July @10pm | BBC Three

During the budding drug epidemic in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, a crime family decides to make money selling cocaine. Meanwhile, a CIA operative also gets involved. Starring Damson Idris.

Foundation: S2 – Friday 14th July | Apple TV+

Tension mounts throughout the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within. Hari, Gaal, and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with special abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself. Meanwhile, the Foundation and Empire are on a collision course for war with the fate of humanity in the balance. Starring Ella-Rae Smith, Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey.

Bird Box Barcelona – Friday 14th July | Netflix

After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, Sebastian must navigate his own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows. Starring Georgina Campbell.

First Night of the Proms – Friday 14th July @7pm | BBC Two
