The Wicked Young Writers’ Award was established by the long-running musical Wicked in order to link the important messages of the production with a competition that would inspire young people to use their writing to look at life a little differently. Since its launch in 2010, they have received 17,000 entries to the award.
Now in its 5th year, the Award recognises excellence in writing, encourages creativity, and helps develop writing talent in young people between 5-25 years old from all backgrounds and areas of the UK & Ireland.
There will be the opportunity to enter into five different age categories:
- 5-7 years old
- 8-10 years old
- 11-14 years old
- 15-17 years old
- 18-25 years old
A shortlist of 100 entrants will be invited to a very special prize event at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in July 2015 and each will receive a published copy of their entry as part of the annual Wicked Young Writers’ Award Anthology. Entrants aged 18-25 will have their entries published on the Wicked Young Writers’ Award website.
Individuals from each age category will then be announced and will receive a certificate signed by Michael Morpurgo and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall plus a magical experience to see Wicked in performance with their friends or family.
Winners from each category will be announced and will receive a certificate signed by Michael Morpurgo and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, the Wicked Young Writers’ Award Anthology and £50 books/eBooks tokens to spend, as well as £100 worth of books for their school library donated by Hachette Children’s Books.
The Award is proud to partner with National Literacy Trust and with Sugarscape who are supporting a special Fan Fiction award to celebrate our 5th anniversary.
Entries can be submitted individually or as part of a school group and both online and postal entries are accepted.
