Nigerian Family Drama Adanne Sets International Festival Run
Nigerian family drama Adanne, the debut feature from film company Melon House Productions, is set to begin its international festival run in the final quarter of 2026.
The official poster has also been unveiled alongside the festival announcements.
Adanne tells the story of three generations of Nigerian women whose lives are bound by legacy, silence and the weight of expectation. As buried tensions rise within the family, each woman must confront the choices, traditions and sacrifices that have shaped them.
Performed in English and Igbo, the film is written by Gold Gerry and directed by Orobosa Ikponmwen, marking her feature directorial debut. The cast includes Mmesomachi Chilaka in the titular role, alongside Onyinye Odokoro (Baby Farm, A Japa Tale, Before We Fall Asleep), Kelvinmary Ndukwe and Jennifer Umenwa. Shot on location in Ibadan, Nigeria, the film is produced by Lotanna Nwose, with Olayinka Suara serving as Director of Photography.
The film examines how patterns of behaviour, belief and survival span generations and looks closely at the quiet negotiations, sacrifices and tenderness that shape mother-daughter relationships within a shared home.
Adanne has been selected to screen at the All Africa Independent Film Festival (AAIFF) in Kigali, Rwanda, taking place from 15 to 17 October 2026. It has also been accepted into the Women of the Lens Festival in London, screening in November 2026. Both selections mark early stops on the film’s international festival run, with further screenings planned across the EMEA region as the film builds towards a theatrical release. It will be distributed in Nigeria by Trino Motion Pictures.
